First
design sketch of principle lay-out
|
A configuration has been built for a
‘Particle Image Velocimetry study’ (PIV) on a centrifugal
water pump impeller. The translucent impeller is driven by a hollow cylinder
at low rpm.Through the hollow cylinder, snap shots
are taken of particles in the flow that are illuminated by green lasers. A computer code compares two photographs taken
shortly after one and other, to derive
streamlines and velocities. The
impeller simply sucks up the water through a transparent Venturi
tube, to allow quantification of total flow. The result is a much simpler and
more aesthetic solution than seen in other renown institutes.
